Climb Kilimanjaro with an Open Group

What is an Open Group?

KilimanjaroKilimanjaroKilimanjaro

Anyone and everyone can sign up to our Open Challenge climbs and either pay for yourself or fund-raise to climb Kilimanjaro for a charity of your choice. Our Open Challenge climbs are fully-inclusive packages and a great way to experience Mount Kilimanjaro bringing like-minded people together to share the experience with all supporting different charities but with the same goal. Kilimanjaro is a big mountain and can be very quiet and lonely in small groups - we believe adventures are best when shared - you will never be walking alone, and there will always be other trekkers with similar experience and pace. We have over 40 yearly departures and a range of Kilimanjaro routes to climb. We have taken over 1000 successful trekkers to the summit of Kilimanjaro raising over £3 million for charity and you could be next!

There are many companies who organise trips to climb Kilimanjaro and ensuring you are choosing the best company and package to climb with is of paramount importance and we recognise this – Follow the link to read our 10 reasons why you should climb Kilimanjaro with us and the details of our challenge.

The details...

Pre-Challenge Support
We recognise that for most signing up to climb Kilimanjaro is a once in a lifetime experience and requires a lot of planning, training and preparation and we provide full support from the moment you sign up. You will be provided with an information pack, detailing training plans, full itinerary details, passport and visa guidance, medical and altitude advice, and an invite to a pre-challenge briefing hosted by our Kilimanjaro experts. You will also have the opportunity to join us on one of our Kilimanjaro training weekends to meet the team, test out your kit and walking legs before arriving at the foothills of Kilimanjaro!

Dates and Routes
We have over 40 yearly departures from the UK and Ireland, departing throughout the year. Follow the link to see a list of all our Kilimanjaro trips in 2012-13.
Our open Kilimanjaro treks follow the three most scenic and interesting routes to the summit the Machame (6 days trekking), Rongai (7 days trekking) and the Lemosho (7 days trekking). In our experience these are the three best routes which allow the body to acclimatise to the altitude over the duration of the trek, and therefore have the best success rates than all other routes available.
If you are a group of 15 or more and interested in climbing another Kilimanjaro route we can organise bespoke private trips and challenges – Follow the link to fill out an online enquiry form detailing what you would like to do, and we can discuss your options in further detail.

Pricing
Whether you are climbing Kilimanjaro to fulfil a personal dream, raising money for charity, or both, we have come up with 3 flexible payment options for you to choose from.

Option 2: Minimum-sponsorship - You pay a registration fee to secure your place on the challenge and then commit to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship for a charity of your choice.

How do I join an Open Group?

Step 1:

Choosing a trip...

We have over 40 Open Group departures throughout the year, on all key routes on Kilimanjaro and with a varying number of days on the mountain.

Join the popular Machame Route and climb to the summit in 6 days, or if you haven’t done trekking on this scale before and want a more relaxed pace, our 7 day Rongai or Lemosho Route might be for you.

However you want to climb Kilimanjaro, we have a trip for everyone.  Have a browse through the itinerary options below to find the right trip for you.

Step 2:

Payment options...

Whether you are climbing Kilimanjaro to fulfil a personal dream, raising money for charity, or both, we have come up with 3 flexible payment options for you to choose from.

Option 1: Self-fund

You pay for your Kilimanjaro climb out of your own pocket as you would a holiday. You can still fundraise for charity if this is something you would like to do and arrange this separately.

How does it work?

  • You pay a registration fee to Action Challenge upon registration to secure your place.
  • We send you an invoice for the final balance of your trip cost 10 weeks prior to departure.
  • You pay your final balance invoice by cheque or bank transfer within two weeks of receipt.

Option 2: Minimum-sponsorship

You raise a minimum amount of sponsorship for a charity of your choice.

How does it work?
  • You pay a registration fee to Action Challenge to secure your place and tell us which charity you are fundraising for. (We sort out the formalities with them).
  • You commit to raising a further minimum amount of sponsorship, e.g. £3500, where 50% (£1750) of the money raised covers the final balance of your place on the trip and 50% (£1750), plus anything raised above your target is kept by the charity.
  • Your charity sends you a fundraising pack and supports you in your fundraising plans.
  • You send at least 80% of your fundraising to the charity (not Action Challenge) 10 weeks prior to departure and the remaining 20% before you go. (Your charity will advise you on how to go about doing this).

Option 3: Mix-funding

You pay for part of the event cost yourself and raise a further amount of sponsorship for the charity of your choice.

How does it work?

  • You pay a registration fee to Action Challenge to secure your place and tell us which charity you are fundraising for. (We sort out the formalities with them).
  • We send you an invoice for a further portion of your trip cost 10 weeks prior to departure, e.g. £650.
  • You pay the above invoice by cheque or bank transfer within two weeks of receipt.
  • You commit to raising a further minimum amount of sponsorship for a charity e.g. £2300, whereby a portion of the monies go towards the final balance of your place on a trip (£1100), but the majority (£1200 - more than 50%) of your fundraising goes to your chosen charity.

Climb for yourself. Climb for charity. Climb Kilimanjaro!
